Idukki acclaimed as a much visited hill station in Kerala. Idukki is a small town which is situated at an altitude of 750 to 2500 m above sea level. Idukki means an ‘a narrow gorge’ which is derived from the word Idukku. It is surrounded by the three main rivers of Periyar, Thalayar and Thodupuzhayar. Best time to visit Idukki is from Septembers to May. The tribal population of Idukki is distinct in their costumes and beliefs which make them different from the mainstream culture.

Idukki is 121 km away from Kottayam. Nearest airports are Madurai (Tamilnadu) 140 km, Kochi (Nedumbassery-190 Km), Thiruvananthapuram (256 Km). Neaarest station from Idukki is Kumarakom 114 km and Madurai station is about 136 km.

Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary
The Idukki wildlife sanctuary is ensconced within the confines of a hill station with a pleasant climate to buoy up the visitor's interest in this treasure trove of wildlife. This sanctuary would showcase a collection of animals of Wild Boar, Bisons, Tigers, Jungle Cats etc and birds like Hornbills, Peafowl, Wood Peckers and King Fishers.

Waterfalls
The waterfalls are an ideal destinations for all those who love to picnic in a natural surroundings. There are two waterfalls one is Thomankuttu and Rainbow Waterfalls. These are located at a distance of 20 and 25 km from Thodupuzha.

Temples
The Temples like Annamalai Temple, Sri Krishnaswamy Temple, Karikodu Bhagwathy are located at Idukki. And every temple has its own uniqueness. Nainar Masjid and St Thomas Church is also there which is believed to be the oldest one in Idukki.
