Munnar
lies in the God's Own Country of Kerala. The hill resort of
Munnar is one of the most
famous tourist destinations in India. Once known as the High
Range of Travancore, Munnar is the commercial centre of some
of the world's highest tea-growing estates. Set amid dramatic
mountain scenery, the craggy peaks, manicured tea estates and
crisp mountain air make this former hill station an ideal retreat.

Munnar hills are situated at an altitude of 5000 to 8000 Ft
above sea level. The high ranges of Munnar were earlier known
as Kannan Devan Hills, named after a certain Kannan Devan, who
had been land lord in the Anchanad Valley on the eastern side
of the district. The main cultivation crops in Munnar are Tea
and Coffee. The surroundings of Munnar are also delightful.
Getting There:
The nearest airport and railway stations are at Kochi (130 km).
The alternative is Madurai (in Tamilnadu), 162km. Taxis and
buses are available from Thiruvananthapuram, Thekkady, Kochi,
Theni, Palani, Madurai, Coimbatore, Kodaikannal, Chinnar, Devikulam
etc. The main KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation)
is south of the town, but all buses stopping at the stand in
bazaar.
Places to Visit: Mattupetty
Driving through the Kodaikanal Rd, Mauttupetty just 13km from
Munnar. It is situated at a height of 1700m. Mattupetty is known
for its highly specialized dairy farm. Here we can see over
100 varieties of high yielding cattle. Mattupetty also has a
beautiful rose garden. Visitors are allowed into three of the
11 cattle sheds at the farm. Visit time 9 to 11 hrs and 1400-1530hrs.
Rajamala
Rajamala is the natural habitat of Nilgiri Tahr. Half the world
population of this rare mountain goat is found here, which is
fast becoming extinct. Visitors are allowed in the Rajamala
region.
Eravikulam National Park
Eravikulam National Park attracts the travellers with its irresistible
grace and beauty. It is spread over 97 sq km in the Rajamalai
hills. This park was established to protect the Nilgiri Tahr
also known as the Nilgiri Ibex.
