Eravikulam National Park is
a cloud smeared plateau situated along the crest of the Western
Ghats in the high mountain of about 6500 feet average height.
It is about 30 kms from Munnar. It encompasses 97 sq. kms
of trekking path attired with grasslands, high level sholas.
This sanctuary lures the travelers with its irresistible grace
and beauty. It stands in stiff comparison with the best mountain
ranges found anywhere in the world. Anamudi (2694m), the
highest peak south of the Himalayas, towers over this sanctuary
with regal pride.
This park was originally set up for the preservation of the highly endangered Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiri Ibex). The Nilgiri Tahr got included in the list of endangered animals of the Wildlife schedule. Taking into account, the ecological, faunal, floral, geo-morphological and zoological merits, it was declared as a National park in 1978.

Park are, over a thousand
Nilgiri tahr, tigers, leopards, jungle cats, civet cats, wild
boar, sloth bear, Nilgiri Langur, squirrels, mongoose, snakes
and reptiles. The Atlas Moth, one of the world's largest moths
is an unique possession of this sanctuary. Located 15 Km from
Munnar, the nearest airport to Eravikulam National Park is
Kochi (Cochin) which is 135 Km away. Nearest railway station
is located at Aluva (115 kms), taxis, cars and other vehicles
are also available from Kochi. It is well connected to all
major cities and towns of Kerala.
